Wow this is beautiful! love the contrasting colors. To get bokeh like that with a 50mm, i'm assuming you were pretty close to her?

I wasn't that close, I was actually on top of a chair behind a tree branch (: bokeh has more to do with aperture (in this case f/1.8) than focal length in my opinion

Ahh that makes sense, cool!  Yes you are correct with the lower aperture as well, but i've found the "closer" you are to your subject, the better the bokeh (or else have a backdrop that is farther away to give the same effect). Kind of like holding  up your finger at arms length and focusing on it, versus focusing on your finger 6" from your face; the 6" away will give  a much more blurred background. I actually just tried that again lol :D
